The MUP team recently hosted booths at two housing conferences: Housing California 2019 (hosted by Housing California) and CAA Connect 2019 (hosted by the California Apartment Association). The following are summaries of both conferences.
Housing California 2019
The MUP team attended the 40th Annual Housing California Conference on April 16-17 in Sacramento. Every year, the conference brings together affordable housing developers, community organizations, local governments, and other stakeholders to discuss key affordable housing issues. This year, the sold-out conference had more than 2,000 attendees and more than 60 exhibitors, including energy consultants, financial companies, and architects.
The MUP team was excited to share information about PG&E’s energy upgrade opportunities for affordable housing. Attendees heard from experts about managing project portfolios, challenges facing rural Californians, and new housing policies. The keynote speakers focused on the meeting’s theme, Shaping the Future, and they delivered research on reframing affordable housing issues to achieve cultural change.
The MUP team attended also attended the California Apartment Association’s Connect: Rental Housing Conference and Expo on April 16 at the Santa Clara Convention Center. The event had 15 seminars with 13 speakers and hosted over 90 exhibitors. Attendees included representatives from California’s leading property management companies and Real Estate Investment Trusts, as well as independent rental owners and vendors.
At the MUP booth, the team helped conference attendees understand the program’s offerings, and they found that attendees were excited to learn about new incentives for reducing water use and networked thermostats. The team passed out frisbees and candy to drive interest, and at the end of the conference, the team raffled off a Nest Smart Thermostat.
